We have initiated this program to assist and strengthen the existing education system of schools catering to urban slum population, to make these children and youth competitive and to instill in them strong values and drive for excellence in education.
Our strategy is not to start parallel institutions but to strengthen the existing institutions. We have selected three girls’ high schools in Chennai, where the major % of children come from weaker sections of the society. Currently we are working with Primary School children.
To enable students to acquire age appropriate and class appropriate English language skills to communicate effectively.
Baseline assessment is done using standardised CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference), the international standard for measuring English communication level. Students are tested on their comprehension skills and are assisted in learning the language from their present level.
The course curriculum is designed by experts in the industry to bring about transfer of knowledge and skills through advanced classroom teaching and experiential learning techniques. The program would utilize well researched tools and techniques like group learning, presentations, practice drills, role-plays, and other innovative methodologies to bring out the learning for all the participants. Student to teacher ratio would be maximum 20:2

‘Employment for skills’ is a comprehensive skills enhancement program. It identifies youth from extreme poverty situations, without formal college education and provide a crash course designed for skills upgradation, soft skills and spoken English and connect them to the industry for placement and ongoing mentoring till they are gainfully employed.
Grass Root Foundation has developed a cost effective approach to providing young people who have graduated from 10/12 standards but unable to continue higher education with the tools they need to develop their vocational and communication skills.
We engage students in extensive experimental learning exercise in small group study methodology and enable both extrovert and introvert students to participate in a balanced way. Courses offered are part time and therefore students can pursue any job in line with what are they are learning.
The output of the program will be:
• Job oriented skills in line with different industries in the service, financial and other sectors
• One to one coaching and mentoring with experts from different industries
• Important life-skills training
• On the job experience
• Assistance to job placement
